Un-Chase!® Snakes

Safety through skill, not fear

Every year across Australia, dogs and snakes cross paths. You can tidy your yard, stick to open trails, and hope for the best, but snakes can still appear when you least expect them.

The Un-Chase!® Snakes program teaches dogs calm, reliable behaviour around snakes. It’s an eight-week program combining hands-on coaching with app-based guidance.

Safety made simple

Many dogs’ first instinct around movement is to chase. Around snakes, this can quickly become dangerous. The good news is that every dog, from puppies to seniors, can learn to make safer choices.

The Un-Chase!® Snakes program teaches dogs to recognise snakes and calmly return to you, and is built on the same learning principles as scent-detection work. It replaces panic and instinct with confidence and clear communication.

Training is entirely reward-based and welfare-focused, meaning no fear, no punishment, and no stress. Just calm, thoughtful learning that helps both you and your dog feel safer outdoors.

How it works

You’ll use the official Un-Chase!® app, created by program founder Alexis Davison, with step-by-step videos, guides, and resources.

Your snake-safety questions, untangled

  • Most snake avoidance programs rely on punishment. Un-Chase!® Snakes is the opposite. It’s positive, science-based, and welfare-focused. Your dog learns to recognise snake scent and calmly return to you because it pays off.

  • No. All snake work is simulated using carefully prepared scent and movement props. These are safe for both dogs and wildlife but realistic enough to teach reliable recognition and calm responses. Your dog learns to make smart choices without ever being exposed to a live snake.

  • Everything you need for success: an initial one-hour foundation session, four targeted follow-ups, full access to the Un-Chase!® app, a snake prop kit, 12 months of program access, and lifetime review and community support.

  • In-person sessions are available across the Macedon Ranges and Goldfields region, within 40km of Malmsbury. This includes Castlemaine, Kyneton, Woodend, and Daylesford. If you’re unsure if I cover your area, get in touch. Online options follow the same structure and work just as well.

  • Yes, as long as you have the time and capacity to work with each dog individually. We usually start with one dog at a time so learning stays clear and calm. Once everyone understands the basics, we can introduce parallel sessions for multi-dog households.

  • All kinds. Puppies, seniors, working breeds, sighthounds, anxious and reactive dogs - every dog can learn snake safety. If you’re unsure or concerned, just get in touch to discuss.

  • The program is designed as a complete system, with each stage building on the last. Consistency matters - dogs (and people) learn best with regular practice. If sessions are missed or delayed, progress stalls. For that reason, the program isn’t designed to be paused or extended, but I’ll help you set a rhythm that fits your life from the start.

  • Consistency keeps skills strong. The program includes a lifetime review course and community group so you can refresh and practise anytime. A few short refreshers each year, especially before snake season, are all most dogs need to stay sharp.
